Apple is trying to take over another industry: education. It has partnered with McGraw-Hill, Pearson, and Houton Mifflin – major players in textbook manufacturing to create interactive textbooks with video, animations, pictures, and even study cards.
Most of the textbooks will cost around $14.99, but is it worth buying a $500 iPad to buy a cheaper textbook? Also, each textbook can take up to 2 gb. This is a lot of space for a 16 gb iPad. A whole semester’s worth of books would barely fit without any other content on the iPad.
At the same time as releasing these new textbooks, Apple has released a textbook publisher with a simple visual interface where whatever you see on the screen is what will be seen on the iPad.
iTunes U is another app that has been released. It is a better version than how iTunes U was previously organized. A college education is now only an iPad away. [via Engadget, image: inUse]
